Sugar traded 0.45 per cent higher in futures trade today bolstered by pick up in demand in the domestic markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the sugar for delivery in April contract traded Rs 13, or 0.45 per cent, higher at Rs 2,913 per quintal, with an open interest of 10,580 lots.

The sugar for delivery in February contract also gained Rs 7, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 2,671 per quintal, with a business turnover of 6,230 lots.

Analysts said firming trend in the spot market following pick up in demand from bulk consumers and retailers, amid ongoing marriage season, helped sugar futures to trade higher.

However, adequate stocks on higher supplies, capped the gains, they added.
