Sugar price firms up on aggressive buying

Sugar prices shot up by Rs 90 per quintal in the national capital today following heavy buying by stockist and retailers amid restricted supplies.

Market analysts said fresh buying by local parties and stockist amid reports of tight supply pushed up sugar prices.

Sugar spot medium and second grade prices jumped up from Rs 2,760-2,885 and Rs 2,750-2,875 to settle at Rs 2,850-2,950 and Rs 2,840-2,940 per quintal respectively.

Mill delivery medium and second grade price also climbed up from Rs 2,560-2,735 and Rs 2,550-2,725 to finish at Rs 2,650-2,750 and Rs 2,640-2740 per quintal.

Following are today's rates in Rs per quintal:

Sugar ready M-30 2,850-2,950 and S-30 2,840-2,940
Mill delivery M-30 2,650-2,750 and S-30 2,640-2740

Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 2,740, Asmoli 2,750, Mawana 2,720, Titabi 2,710, Thanabhavan 2,700, Budhana 2,700 and Dorala 2,710
