Sugar prices rise on better offtake

Sugar prices closed higher by Rs 50 per quintal in the national capital today, following fresh buying by stockist and retailers amid restricted supply. 

Analysts said brisk buying by retailers and bulk consumers against restricted supply, mainly pushed up sugar prices.

Ongoing marriage season demand also supported the uptrend to some extent, they added.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices rose from Rs 3,050-3,200 and Rs 3,025-3,175 to settle at Rs 3,050-3,250 and Rs 3,025-3,225 per quintal, respectively.

Mill delivery medium and second grade prices also went up from Rs 2,875-3,125 and Rs 2,850-3,100 to end at Rs 2,900-3,125 and Rs 2,890-3,100 per quintal, respectively.

Following are today's rates in Rs per quintal:

Sugar ready M-30 3,050-3,250 and S-30 3,025-3,225
Mill delivery M-30 2,900-3,125 and S-30 2,890-3,100

Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 3,125, Asmoli 3,115, Mawana 3,060, Titabi 3,040, Thanabhavan 2,990, Budhana 3000, and Dorala 3,070
