Sugar recovers on stockists buying

Sugar prices recovered at the Vashi wholesale sugar market here today on emergence of fresh buying from stockists and traders following the government's decision to allow sugar exports of up to five lakh tonnes.

Small sugar quality (S-30) rose by Rs 20/26 per quintal to Rs 2,801/2,841 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 2,781/2,815.

Medium sugar (M-30) also firmed up by Rs 20/25 per quintal to Rs 2,841/2,926 as compared to Rs 2,821/2,901 previously.

The sugar market was closed yesterday in view of a local holiday.

The following are today's closing rates per quintal, with the previous rates in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality Rs 2,801/2,841 (Rs 2,781/ 2,815) and medium sugar (M-30) quality Rs 2,841/2,926 (Rs 2,821/2,901)
