Sugar up on brisk buying

Sugar prices firmed up by Rs 70 per quintal in the national capital today on brisk buying by bulk and retailer consumers amid restricted supplies.

Marketmen said heavy buying by retailers and bulk consumers, such as soft drink and ice cream makers due to the high consumption of products in summer season, led to an upsurge in sugar prices.

Restricted supply from mills also influenced the trading sentiment, they added. Sugar ready medium and second grade prices rose from Rs 2,880-2,930 and Rs 2,870-2,920 to settle at Rs 2,900-3,000 and Rs 2,890-2,990 per quintal, respectively.

Mill delivery medium and second grade price also gained from Rs 2,735-2,780 and Rs 2,725-2,770 to settle at Rs 2,800-2,900 and Rs 2,790-2,890 per quintal. Among mill gate section, sugar titabi traded higher by Rs.70 to Rs.2700 per quintal.

Mill delivery M-30 2,800-2,900 and S-30 2,790-2890

Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Kinonni 2,775, Asmoli 2,790, Mawana 2,710, Titabi 2,700, Thanabhavan 2,690, Budhana 2,680 and Dorala 2,700
