According to market buzz, the company has sought new electricity distribution licences for Navi Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Lonavala and Khopoli. The new licences will enable Tata Power to sell power directly to consumers.
The counter has moved up in the last few months following the recent reforms in the power sector.
The new Electricity Act 2003 has paved the way for the entry of private players in the distribution segment, by making it a licensed activity. Tata Power will benefit from this.
