“The index calculation system which is separate from trading system faced a technical issue in the morning. It has been resolved,” said an official comment from BSE.
According to traders and other market intermediaries’ accounts, updation of the BSE Sensex values had stopped for about 20 minutes after the pre-open session.
The trading system remained unaffected and transactions continued unaffected.
“The trading system has been working normally since start of trading,” the BSE statement added.
The NSE Nifty continued to trade unperturbed.
“It was only the Sensex updates which had stopped for a few minutes. Trading activity went on as usual without any hiccups,” said a dealer with a domestic brokerage.
This is not the first technical snag in the BSE this year. In April, on the first day of migration to the new trading system – the BOLT-plus trading system, traders were unable to access the platform. The technical glitch was then attributed to a snag in migration which resulted in a restart of the new trading system. As a result, many traders were forcefully logged out of the system for some time.
On Thursday, the BSE Sensex today closed down 0.4% at 25,473. The NSE Nifty was also down 0.4% and ended at 7,626.
