Reflecting the buoyancy in the market, the Sensex opened with a positive gap of 49 points at 12,785 and then did not bother to look back. The index scaled new heights during the course of the day.Banking stocks flared up in the latter half of the trading session taking the index to a high of 12,954. The Sensex finally settled with a gain of 192 points at 12,928 - just 72 points shy of the 13,000-mark.In the process, the index has now gained 575 points in the last three trading days.The BSE Bankex rallied 2.5% to 6256. The FMCG index moved up 1.7% to 2071. The IT, Metal and Oil & Gas indices were up over 1% each at 4847, 8792 and 5976, respectively. The broader market breadth was bearish - out of 2,596 stocks traded, 1,446 declined, 1,098 advanced and 52 were unchanged.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSHDFC Bank zoomed nearly 6% to Rs 1,047. ICICI Bank rallied 3.5% to Rs 720.Hindalco surged 4% to Rs 182. Larsen & Toubro moved up 3% to Rs 1,306.ITC flared up 2.7% to Rs 194. Reliance advanced 2% to Rs 1,213 and Bharti Airtel added 1.7% to Rs 486.TCS and Wipro gained 2.3% each at Rs 1,130 and Rs 570, respectively. Satyam spurted over 2% to Rs 436.ONGC and Cipla moved up around 1.5% each to Rs 1,172 and Rs 264, respectively.Reliance Energy and Reliance Communications were up around 1% each at Rs 467 and Rs 371, respectively.Auto, cement and pharma stocks witnessed profit-taking, and ended the day on a subdued note.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSReliance topped the value chart with a turnover of Rs 193 crore followed by Infosys (Rs 109 crore), Atlanta (Rs 101 crore), Hindustan Zinc (Rs 95.50 crore) and Satyam (Rs 86.25 crore).Silverline led the volume chart with trades of around 41 lakh shares followed by Alchemist (37 lakh), Aztec Software (35 lakh), Gwalior Chemicals (34 lakh) and Atlanta (31.15 lakh).
