Continuing its upward journey, turmeric futures prices rose Rs 858 or 6.09 per cent to Rs 14,948 per quintal in futures trading today, as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by less supply in markets.

Fresh exports demand also supported the uptrend in turmeric prices at futures market here.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in September surged by Rs 858, or 6.09 per cent to Rs 14,948 per quintal, with an open interest of 45 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in June also jumped by Rs 460, or 3.02 per cent to Rs 15,710 per quintal, with a business turnover of 7,840 lots.

Analysts attributed the sharp rise in turmeric prices at futures market to low stocks position against hectic buying.
