Turmeric prices surged by Rs 296 or 2.01 per cent to Rs 15,034 per quintal in futures trade on paucity of stocks, driven by pick up in demand at the spot market.
Some inquiries from overseas also supported the uptrend in turmeric prices.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the turmeric for July contract surged by Rs 296, or 2.01 per cent to Rs 15,034 per quintal, with an open interest of 6,930 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in June-month contract jumped up by Rs 294, or 2.01 per cent to Rs 14,956 per quintal, with a business volume of 9,615 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in turmeric prices at futures market to overseas enquiries and less arrivals at physical markets.
