Turmeric, jeera rises on stockists buying

Turmeric and jeera prices surged by Rs 100 per quintal each in the national capital today on fresh buying by stockists as well as exporters amid low stocks.

Tight stocks following poor supplies from producing belts also influenced the prices.

Turmeric prices rose by Rs 100 to settle at Rs 18,100-20,100 per quintal.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also rose by Rs 100 each to finish at Rs 13,400-13,600 and Rs 14,800-15,300 per quintal.

Traders said increased buying by stockists driven by rising exporters' demand, pushed up turmeric and jeera prices at the wholesale kirana market here.

Ajwain 12,500-19,000, black pepper common 23,300-23,400 betelnut (kg) 120-145, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,100-1,110 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,200-1,350

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1,300--1,350, cardamom (colour robin) 1,370-1,380, cardamom bold 1,390-1,400, cardamom extra (bold) 1,490-1,500 and cloves (kg) 340-400.
