Uttar Pradesh has produced 5.16 million tonnes sugar in the current crushing season as against the target of 3.94 million tonnes (mt) at the start of the season.
“The state has achieved production of 5.16 mt in the current season by crushing 565.93 mt cane,” Cane Development Minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said while 1.01 mt sugar was produced by mills of the UP Sugar Corporation Limited, cooperative and private sector units produced 3.13 mt and 4.75 mt, respectively.
“Sugar recovery this season was 9.12 per cent,” he said.The minister said compared to the last season, when 132 mills were operating, 128 units crushed cane this season. “A total payment of Rs 12,227.62 crore has been made to the farmers,” he said.
