US stocks rose on Tuesday as a good profits from Caterpillar Inc removed some uneasiness about the company's outlook for the current quarter.
The Dow Jones industrial average gained 68 points (0.77%) to 8,916. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose three points (0.36%) to 954. The Nasdaq Composite Index added seven points (0.36%) to 1,916 which was the closing high for the year.
The Indian ADRs ended on a negative note.
Satyam Mahindra slipped 6% to $4.37. ICICI Bank dropped 2% to $32.54.
Patni Computers was down 2% at $11.97 and Wipro was marginally down 1% at $13.48.
HDFC Bank and Dr Reddys were the other marginal losers.
On the other hand, MTNL added 4% to $4 and Sterlite was up 1% at $12.1
