The Dow Jones industrial average shed 181 points to 11,479. The Nasdaq dropped 36 points to 2,417.
The Indian ADRs, too, ended with significant losses. MTNL tumbled 5% to $4.88. ICICI Bank shed 4% to $29.87. Infosys, Genpact, Sterlite, Satyam, Wipro, Patni Computers, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Dr.Reddy's and Tata Communications declined 1-4% each.
