Washed Arabicas tag eases at ICTA

Washed Arabicas (season 2005/06) prices eased by Rs 50 to Rs 100 owing to selective domestic growers' interest at the Indian Coffee Trade Association (ICTA) auction on Thursday.

According to auctioneer Carritt Moran and Company, the small quantity of Arabica and Robusta secondary grades on offer attracted good demand, prices of these appreciated by Rs 50. New crop Arabica Plantation grades witnessed sluggish export enquiry as the asking prices were high.

At the auction, of the 241 tonne offered for sale (last week 219 tonne) 54 tonne was sold (last week 40 tonne). Arabica comprised 179 tonne (last week 153 tonne), Robusta 62 tonne (last week 66 tonne).

Following are the prices quoted for grades in Rs/50kg. Arabica varieties:

Arabica Parchment PB Rs 6,239 (quantity sold 1,977 kg), Arabica Parchment AA for crop season 2006-07 Rs 6,003 (8,940 kg), Arabica Parchment A for crop season, 2006-07, Rs 6,026 (16,382 kg), Arabica Parchment B for crop season 2006-07, Rs 5,882 (3,140 kg), Arabica Parchment C for crop season 2006-07, Rs 5,600 (1,047 kg), Arabica Cherry PB Rs 3,776 (649 kg), Arabica Cherry AA Rs 4,700 (565 kg), Arabica Cherry C Rs 3,550 (1,000 kg).

Arabica Cherry BBB Rs 3,400 (3,700 kg). Robusta varieties: Robusta Parchment PB Rs 3,850 (600 kg), Robusta Cherry C Rs 3,450 (2,000 kg), Robusta Cherry BBB Rs 3,400 (2,892 kg).
