The Sensex today staged a solid recovery on the back of all-round buying. The index, which had tumbled 383 points in the last two days, regained 292 points today.The Sensex opened 30 points higher at 11,677. The index slipped into red to a low of 11,635, but soon bounced into positive zone. Unabated buying in the market led the index to higher levels as the day progressed.The index touched a high of 11,965 - up 330 points from the day's low. The Sensex finally ended with a huge gain of 2.5% (292 points) at 11,939.The BSE Metal index soared 4% to 10,486. The Auto and Oil & Gas indices gained 3% each at 5,499 and 5,645, respectively. The FMCG index surged 2.5% to 2,284, and the IT index advanced 2% to 4,092.The market breadth was fairly positive. Out of 2,572 stocks traded, 1,592 advanced, 915 declined and 65 were unchanged today.INDEX MOVERS & SHAKERSMaruti zoomed 6.5% to Rs 923. Tata Motors rallied 4.5% to Rs 958, and Bajaj Auto gained over 4% to Rs 2,953. Hero Honda was up 2.6% at Rs 847.Tata Steel surged 5% to Rs 654. Hindalco moved up over 4% to Rs 214.Cipla soared 6% to Rs 263. While Dr.Reddy's added 1.5% to Rs 1,456, Ranbaxy declined 1% to Rs 476.ONGC flared up 4.8% to Rs 1,387. Reliance added 2.6% to Rs 978.Wipro zoomed 4.3% to Rs 549. Infosys gained 2.6% at Rs 3,228, and Satyam advanced 2% to Rs 777. TCS, too, finished with a gain at Rs 1,942. HLL moved up 4% to Rs 289, and ITC was up over 2% at Rs 201.ACC surged nearly 5% to Rs 968. Grasim rallied 3.4% to Rs 2,377, and Gujarat Ambuja spurted 1% to Rs 118.HDFC advanced 3.3% to Rs 1,297. While HDFC Bank advanced 1.5% to Rs 838, ICICI Bank and SBI moved up 1% each to Rs 567 and Rs 910, respectively.OTHER GAINERS & LOSERSRCF, Thomas Cook and Bombay Rayon hit the 20% upper limit each at Rs 48.10, Rs 645 and Rs 166, respectively. Finolex Industries, DCW, FACT, Bata India, Pratibha, Indiabulls, National Fertilisers, Mahindra Gesco, Shyam Telecom, Tata Elxsi, Bombay Dyeing and MTNL ended with sharp gains today.Wartsila plunged over 9% to Rs 400. Aarvee Denim, Subex Systems, Shah Alloy, Harrison Malyalam, Strides Arcolab, Today's Writing, Elecon Engineering, Colgate, Indo Rama Synthetics, VisualSoft, Hexaware and Wockhardt were the other major losers.VALUE & VOLUME TOPPERSReliance led the value chart with a turnover of Rs 173.25 crore followed by debutant R Systems (Rs 156.42 crore), Hindustan Zinc (Rs 136.50 crore), Pratibha (Rs 118.18 crore) and Maruti (Rs 113.88 crore).R Systems topped the volume chart with trades of around (Rs 60.19 lakh), Ashok Leyland (52 lakh), MTNL (45.53 lakh), Himachal Futuristic (44.65 lakh) and Prism Cements (43.46 lakh).
