Though the recent loan waiver, announced by the Union government, was yet to bring little relief for the farmers the heavy rains have again played spoilsport with them, as their ready to harvest wheat crop flattened due to untimely rain, causing acute loss.

With continued shortage of wheat in buffer stock and rise in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of wheat, the farmers were expecting a bumper crop to overcome their financial ailment. All their hopes dashed due to heavy thunderstorm, which hit almost all of northern region.

The heavy rain during saturday night has proved havoc for the farmers and if it continued in days to come, it would prove fatal for the farmers, agricultural experts opined.

"Earlier on April 3, when a short span of rain was witnessed, about 30 per cent of the crop was damaged but continued overnight spell has further killed my hope as till last night the standing crop got flattened in the morning", a farmer Balwant Singh said while showing his flattened crop.
