Wheat prices fell marginally by Rs 1.80, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 1,251.40 per quintal in futures trade today, on mounting stocks and supplies in physical market. However, hopes of better wheat exports restricted losses in wheat futures.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in July contract traded Rs 1.80, or 0.14 per cent lower, at Rs 1,251.40 per quintal, with an open interest of 25,810 lots. It ended 0.35 per cent lower at Rs 1,253.20 per quintal in yesterday's trading.
The wheat for delivery in August contract also shed Rs 0.20, or 0.02 per cent, at Rs 1,270.40 per quintal, with an open interest of 12,530 lots.
Marketmen said adequate stocks position followed by increased supplies in the physical market put pressure on the wheat prices at futures market but hopes of wheat exports limited losses.
