Wheat futures traded Rs 4.80, or 0.38 per cent higher, to Rs 1,268 per 100 kg, as speculators built up positions on hopes of export to Asian countries amid pick up in demand at the physical market.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, wheat for delivery in September contract moved up by Rs 4.80, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 1,268 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 25,560 lots.
It ended 0.54 per cent higher at Rs 1,263.20 per 100 kg.
Analysts said the rise in wheat futures was attributed to hopes of exports to neighbouring Asian countries after a drought forced Russia to temporarily halt shipments.
They said, however, a bumper crop and adequate stocks at the physical markets, limited the upside.
