Wholesale prices of wheat and rice remained steady on the grains market in the national capital today, even as the government decided to release five million tonnes of grains in the open market. Other grains, in a range-bound trading settled around previous levels.
Wheat dara, mostly consumed by flour mills, remained stable at Rs 1,230-1,235 per quintal despite government's decision to release five million tonnes of grain in the open market.
Traders said adequate stocks followed by increased arrivals in the market against sluggish demand kept wheat prices unchanged.
"The government's decision to release five million tonnes of grain in the open market failed to have any immediate impact on the wheat prices but prices may decline in coming days", said a grain merchant in the national capital.
