Wheat prices strengthened by Rs 10 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to increased offtake by flour mills to meet seasonal demand.

Traders attributed the rise in wholesale wheat prices to the increased offtake by flour mills to meet seasonal demand against slowdown in arrivals.

However, measures taken by the government to ensure domestic supply on the back of a robust stock situation limited the gains.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) remained in demand and inched up by Rs 5 to Rs 1,145-1,150 per quintal, while wheat deshi gained Rs 10 to settle at Rs 1,650-1,750 per quintal.

Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by Rs 10 to Rs 1,150-1,155 per 90 kg. Other grains like barley also moved up on increased offtake from consuming industries.

Barley also improved by Rs 20 to Rs 950-970 per quintal on increased offtake from consuming industries. However, maize fell by Rs 30 to Rs 950-960 per quintal for want of support.
