Wheat and rice basmati prices fell up to Rs 50 per quintal in the wholesale grains market today on adequate stocks position against sluggish demand.

Traders said adequate stocks position at government's godowns and in markets, followed by increased arrivals led to a fall in wholesale wheat and rice basmati prices.

Besides, government's decision to release five million tonnes of grain in the open market too kept pressure on the prices, they said.

Wheat dara (for mills) declined by Rs 10 to Rs 1,240- 1,245 per quintal, while atta chakki delivery lost Rs 10 to Rs 1,245-1,250 per 90 kg.

In the rice section, basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety lost Rs 50 each at Rs 5,100-5,200 and Rs 4,400-4,900 per quintal.
