The Sensex swung in a wide range of 408 points during the week ended February 24. The index touched a new, all-time intra-day high of 10,305 before settling with a handsome gain of 220 points (2.2%) at 10,201.Tata Steel surged 9.5%, and was the major gainer among the Sensex stocks. The stock contributed 25 points to the Sensex rally followed by HDFC (23 points), NTPC (23 points), Bajaj Auto (21 points) and ONGC (20 points). On the other hand, HDFC Bank slipped over 4% and took away 13 points from the index followed by Infosys (11 points). Lok Housing zoomed over 27% (Rs 22) to Rs 102. Jindal Drilling, Uttam Galva, Simplex Mills, 3M India, Maxwell, Jindal Stainless, Pantaloon, GSFC, Mount Everest, IFCI, JSW Steel, Lakshmi Overseas, Ganesh Housing and McNally Bharat finished the week with sharp gains of 10-22% each. HCL Infosys plunged over 33% (Rs 86) to Rs 172 following the Nokia agreement. Warren Tea, Diana Tea, Bombay Oxygen, Jagatji Industries, Saregama, Mount Shivalik, Radha Madhav, Patel On Board, Kothari Products, Jindal Photo, Adlabs, Royal Orchid, VSL Instruments, Hitech Gears and Patel Roadways slumped 10-22% each during the week.The week also saw five new listings - Reliance Capital Ventures, Reliance Energy Ventures, Jagran Prakashan, Inox Leisure and Dynemic Product.While Dynemic Product dropped over 19.5% from its issue price on Day 1, Jagran plunged 14.5%. On the other hand, Inox made a dazzling start with a huge gain of 45.6% on the first day.Foreign institutional investors were heavy buyers to the tune of Rs 1,890.20 crore in the first four days of the trading week. The domestic mutual funds sold shares worth Rs 212.65 crore during the same period.
