Zinc prices fell by Rs 0.85, or 1.04 per cent, to Rs 80.70 per kg today in futures trade on a weakening trend at the London Metal Exchange and domestic spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for July contract drifted by Rs 0.85, or 1.04 per cent, to Rs 80.70 per kg, with an open interest in 770 lots.

The metal for delivery in current-month, June contract also drifted by Rs 0.75 or 0.93 per cent to Rs 79.65 per kg, with an open interest in 7,245 lots.

Analysts said that besides weak trend overseas, subdued demand at spot markets also put pressure on the zinc prices in futures trade here.

Meanwhile, at the London Metal Exchange, zinc fell by 2.2 per cent to $1,696.50 per tonne after rising over 5 per cent in the previous session.
