Zinc prices fell by Rs 1.10, or 1.13 per cent, to Rs 96.20 per kg in futures trade today, as traders offloaded their positions, driven by a weakening trend overseas.

Weak trend at physical markets owing to sluggish demand was another factor behind the fall in zinc futures prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, zinc for delivery in August contract drifted by Rs 1.10, or 1.13 per cent, to Rs 96.20 per kg, with a turnover of 6,230 lots.

The metal for delivery in September contract edged lower by Rs 1.05, or 1.07 per cent, to Rs 97.35 per kg, with a turnover of 1,129 lots.

According to analysts, weak trend in base metals pack at the London Metal Exchange as weaker-than-forecast economic data from the US dimmed recovery prospects in the world's second-largest user of the metal, dampened the trading sentiment at futures trade here.

Meanwhile, at the LME, zinc fell 0.80 per cent to $2,074 per tonne.
