Zinc prices moved up by Rs 2.15 to Rs 109.05 per kg in futures trading today as traders enlarged their positions, driven by pick-up in demand in the spot market.

Firming trend in global markets also influenced the trading sentiments.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for July delivery moved up by Rs 2.15, or 2.01%, to Rs 109.05 per kg, with a business turnover of 9,732 lots.

Likewise, the metal for August delivery edged up by Rs 2.05, or 1.90%, to Rs 110 per kg, with an open interest of 403 lots.

Market analysts said pick-up in spot market demand mainly lead to the rise in zinc prices at futures trade. Meanwhile, zinc was up 0.4% at $2,440 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
