Zinc prices improved by 1.29 per cent, to Rs 114.05 per kg today, as speculators built up positions, driven by firming trend overseas and strong demand at domestic markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, zinc delivery for October gained Rs 1.45, or 1.29 per cent, to Rs 114.05 per kg, with a turnover of 38 lots.

The metal for delivery in November also traded up by Rs 1.40, or 1.23 per cent, to Rs 113.60 per kg, with a business turnover of 15 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in zinc futures prices to a firm trend in base metals overseas and rising demand at spot markets.
