Zinc futures traded 0.71 per cent higher to Rs 99.50 per kg per kg supported by a firming trend at the London Metal Exchange.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, zinc for delivery in September contract traded 70 paisa, or 0.71 per cent higher, to Rs 99.50 per kg, with a turnover of 1,280 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in October contract also edged higher by 60 paisa, or 0.60 per cent, to Rs 100.60 per kg, with a turnover of 70 lots.

Analysts said firming trend in base metals in global markets as weakening dollar boosted demand for the commodities as an alternative investment option, influenced the zinc futures prices here.

Meanwhile, zinc climbed 2.3 per cent to $2,199.75 per tonne.
