The C63 AMG Coupe is set to make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show to be held in September.Itwill make its debut alongside the other standard versions of the new C-Class Coup.
Mercedes-Benzs performance car division is preparing to take on rivals like theBMW M4 and other coups with the 503bhp twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8-powered C63 Coup.The saloon and coup share the same rear-wheel drive platform, driveline and electronic architecture. However, the C63 Coup will have bespoke suspension tuning, revised elasto-kinematic properties, a lower centre of gravity and specific camber rates among other detailed chassis changes. These were confirmed by AMGs engineering team to Autocar, UK.
The revisions in the car willprovide the C63 Coup with sharper driving traits than the current C63 sedan. Our source said:The C63 AMG coupe is supposed to better the earlier car in every department.One major change is the introduction of electro-mechanical steering in place of the hydraulic set-up used on the previous C63 Coup. A mechanical locking differential will also be included as standard, with a faster-reacting electronically operated differential included on the top-of-the-line S model.
The new C63 Coup is powered byAMGs M178 engine, same as the C63 sedan. The 4.0-litre petrol unit, used by the flagship GT sports car, will be offered in two states of tune. The 90deg V8, is expected to churn out 469bhp in theC63 Coup and its turbochargers are mounted up high between the cylinder banks for optimal packaging.
The C63 Coup thas a more muscular appearance, particularly apparent towards the rear with the beefed up rear wheel arches. Thisgives the new coup a more aggressive stance than the earlier car. Otherfeatures include a more heavily raked windscreen, frameless doors, unique rear side windows, shapely C-pillar, a heavily angled rear window, short boot, horizontally set tail-lights and a substantial bumper assembly complete with integral diffuser and four trapezoidal-shaped chromed tailpipes.Mercedes-AMG sources confirm that it is aroung 15kgs lighter than its predecessor. It is also rumoured that the car will do 0-100kmph in under 4 seconds, challenging the BMW M4.
