Volkswagen has introduced the Jetta MY 2015 today, with the price range starting at Rs 15.3 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). This is the price for the 1.4-litre petrol version's base model and the top-of-the-line trim in petrol costs Rs 17 lakhs (on-road). The 2.0-litre diesel manual engine is priced between Rs 16.5-20.5lakhs (on-road) and the diesel DSG costs Rs 21.4 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
This is the same Jetta with some upgrades like new headlamps with LEDs on the top variant and minor tweaking in styling to the rear and the interior. Apart from that, new colours are being offered on the Jetta. There is no 1.8-litre turbo petrol engine being offered, which is a bit disappointing as the Octavia gets this option.
The Volkswagen Jetta competes with the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and the Hyundai Elantra. The Toyota Corolla is the segment leader and offers maximum bells and whistles in this segment. However, the diesel engine offered on the Corolla Altis is less powerful than the Jetta. The Corolla Atlis diesel is the cheapest, while Jetta and Octavia are priced on the higher side. Volkswagen will be introducing a new model year for the Vento this year, and it is likely to get minor cosmetic upgrades too.
