The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday confirmed that 11 nurses hailing from Kerala have been safely evacuated from conflict-hit city Kirkuk in Iraq.
MEA official spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin, addressing a press conference, stated that the nurses have been shifted to another city, Erbil, where Indian embassy officials were in touch with them. Akbaruddin further said that the nurses would be soon flown to Kerala.
Akbaruddin however, declined to share details on how they were freed. He further stated that the situation of the 39 Indian nationals trapped in Mosul remains 'unclear'.
To date, around ninety Indians have reportedly been safely evacuated from Iraq.
