'12 Years a Slave' wins big at Independent Spirit Awards 2014

The Oscar-nominated film '12 Years a Slave' grabbed 5 awards including best feature and best director at the Independent Spirit Awards held on Saturday afternoon in Santa Monica, California.

'Blue Jasmine' Cate Blanchett grabbed the 'Best Female Lead' trophy and 'Dallas Buyers Club' Matthew McConaughey was declared as the 'Best Male Lead', Us Magazine reported.

Movie with the best screenplay was given to John Ridley for '12 Years a Slave', the Best Supporting Female was given to Lupita Nyong for '12 Years a Slave' whereas, the Best Supporting Male was taken by Dallas Buyers Club' Jared Leto.

The Independent Spirit Award winners are:

Best Feature - '12 Years A Slave'

Best Director - Steve McQueen, '12 Years A Slave'
