At least 15 fishermen were rescued, around 70 nautical miles away from North of Mumbai, after two fishing boats Himsagar and Krishna Sagar they were onboard sunk last night.
The Indian Navy helicopters were pressed to search the survivors following the receipt of information.
The rescued fishermen are presently being treated at a hospital in Umargam.
The incident occurred when one of the fishing boats bottom grounded and started sinking.
"On witnessing one of the boats sinking, the second boat sailed to its rescue and it too got sunk," said an Indian Navy official.
The fishermen had set out in two fishing boats from Zai and Gholwad villages last evening.
The local fishermen also assisted in the search operation.
