17 sentenced to life imprisonment for killing Odisha police officer

As many as seventeen persons of Odisha's Sundargarh District have been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing an assistant sub inspector (ASI) of police in August, 2012.

All of the convicts are residents of Dudukabahal Village.

While delivering the sentence yesterday, the Sundargarh Additional District Judge also ordered all the 17 convicts to pay a penalty of Rs. 10,000/ each and undergo another two years of imprisonment if they fail to pay.

On August 11, 2012, a police team including ASI Nabin Patel, had gone to Dudukabahal village to arrest a person. In no time, a mob gathered at the place who opposed the arrest, attacked the policemen, leaving the Officer in-charge of Lanjiberna police outpost dead and another policeman critically injured.
