Bird fossils dating back at least 178 years have been found inside a wall of an old school building in Kolkata during renovation.

The fossils were discovered in the compound of the Kolkata La Martiniere School for Boys.

School Secretary Suprio Dhar confirmed the discovery of the fossils, saying they were found when a wall of the building collapsed.

The school management has called in Archaeological Survey of India experts and ornithologists to identify the dead bird species.
