At least 19 people were killed and 57 others injured in a suicide bombing that targeted a protest in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province on Tuesday, local officials said.
The suicide bomber targeted an agitation in Mohmand Dara district near Jalalabad-Torkham Highway of the province, TOLOnews reported.
Provincial governor's spokesperson Attaullah Khogyani said that the protest was being held for the dismissal of Bilal Pacha, a commander of local police force members in Achin district. Sources said that the casualties could be much higher.
Afghanistan has been witnessing a series of suicide attacks in recent months.
On September 9, three people were killed and 14 others wounded in Kabul when a suicide bombing targeted a convoy marking the 17th anniversary of anti-Soviet fighter Ahmed Shah Massoud's death. Later on that day, 20 Afghan security personnel were killed in an attack by the Taliban in Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province.
