Remembering the martyrs and the brave soldiers on the 50th year anniversary of Indo-Pak war, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that the sacrifices made by the armed forces in the 1965 India-Pakistan war will always be remembered.
"I remember at that time as a school boy when the armed forces were defending our borders, the whole country was glued to the radio. A huge sacrifice was made and the enemy was shown its place by demonstrating the superiority of armed forces. My best compliments to our forces. I salute you(armed forces) and to the martyrs who defended our frontiers with their ultimate sacrifice,"Jaitley said.
"Today is indeed a very nostalgic occasion when we remember on the 50th year anniversary our decisive victory in the 1965 war and the contribution of the brave soldiers who fought that war," Jaitley added.
A six day long exhibition showcasing major battle scenes of the 1965 War began today in the national capital which will also see manoeuvres by fighter jets as part of the golden jubilee commemoration of the war.
