Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that his government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to help the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
"The Delhi Government has formed an SIT on 1984 riots. We will provide lawyers to the victims in 1984 Sikh riot cases. We will co-operate fully with the Centre on this and will keep providing help to the victims of 1984 riots," Kejriwal said in the Delhi Assembly.
The 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which claimed the lives of almost 3,000 Sikhs, were triggered by the assassination of former prime minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, by her two Sikh bodyguards.
