The Indian women hockey team beat Japan 2-1 at Seohak Hockey Stadium on Wednesday to bag the bronze medal in the 2014 Asian Games.
With the win, India not only claimed the bronze medal but they also avenged their last Asiad defeat in 2010 Guangzhou Games when they lost to the same opponents in the bronze medal match four years back.
India's Jaspreet Kaur scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute when she converted the penalty corner to give them a 1-0 lead before Japan's Akane Shibata made it level in the the 45th minute.
However, Vandana Kayaria immediately followed Shibata's equaliser with a quick goal just a minute later to hand India the lead once again and secure their win.
In the women's hockey final, hosts South Korea will take on China for the title clash later in the day.
With this bronze India's bronze medal tally gone up to 33 with seven golds and eight silver medals. India is currently placed at the 10th position in the 2014 Asian Games.
