Bromsgrove Member of Parliament (MP), United Kingdom, Sajid Javid on Wednesday launched the 20th Year of Chevening Gurukul Fellowship Programme for Leadership and Excellence - the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office's leading fellowship in India.

The announcement was made during the launch of the 2016 UK-India year of Education, Research and Innovation at the British Council headquarters in New Delhi.

Sajid Javid, secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, speaking on the occasion said that, Gurukul alumni have become leaders across the world.

"Gurukul alumni have an excellent record of becoming leaders across a wide range of fields including politics, business, media, civil society, science and technology, and academia. This is exactly what we hope to encourage in the future, helping build stronger, deeper relations between the UK and India," Javid said.

The Chevening Gurukul fellowship brings 12 mid-career professionals with strong and demonstrable leadership qualities from diverse backgrounds to the UK for a fully-funded three month fellowship programme. Those selected work with the very best British academics, practitioners and leaders.
