27 Indians, who had been stranded in Iraq's Basra city, returned to India on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who recently met the family members of Indians held in captivity in Iraq, said the government is trying its best to trace the victims.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had confirmed that 11 nurses hailing from Kerala had been safely evacuated from conflict-hit city Kirkuk in Iraq earlier this month.

However, they had declined to share details on how they were freed and had stated that the situation of the 39 Indian nationals trapped in Mosul remains 'unclear'.
