Three Kenyan soldiers have been arrested for looting the Nairobi's Westgate shopping mall during the deadly four-day siege by the al Qaeda-linked militant outfit al-Shabaab last month.
The army chief General Julius Karangi revealed that the investigation found out three soldiers with stolen property. While two have been jailed and dismissed, one is still under investigation, he said.
One member of a fire brigade was caught with mobile phones and cameras, while other was caught stealing an abandoned car from the mall's parking lot, News.com.au reports.
Earlier, General Karangi had denied reports of troops looting the mall, saying that they seized the goods for making them secure.
Several business owners at the Westgate Mall said they had locked their premises before escaping, but found them ransacked after being allowed back once the siege was over.
According to the report, security camera footage from the mall showed soldiers carrying white plastic bags out of the supermarket after the siege.
General Karangi called the decision a lapse in the judgment, and said disciplinary measures would be taken against them.
