The automated checkouts make one third of shoppers lose their temper and swear at the machines.
The survey of 7000 shoppers, conducted by consumer group Which? also revealed that 8 out of 10 buyers used the automated facilities to pay their shopping bills in the last six months, the Mirror reported.
One of the spokesperson of Which? said that nearly half of the population uses the self service tills but they have proven to be frustrating for the shoppers.
The survey also disclosed that 1 in 5 shoppers have confessed of stealing items during the use of self- scanners due to the lack of staff monitoring in the vicinity.
