39 injured in clashes during municipal polls in Bangladesh

At least 39 people have been injured across Bangladesh in clashes at different polling centres during the voting for the municipal elections.

According to The Daily Star, supporters of Awami League (AL) nominated candidate Masudul Haque Masud swooped on AL rebel candidate Tarikul Islam Chanchal at Bhuapur municipality of Tangail and his polling agent Aminul Islam Babu at Ghatandi polling centre early this morning.

Tarikul and Babu are being treated at Tangail Medical College Hospital.

At least seven people were injured in two separate clashes between AL and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) men at two polling centres of Matlab municipality in the district.

At least five people were injured at Dakkhin Baishpur Government Primary School polling centre where the police had to fire 15 shots to bring the situation under control.

Three BNP agents were beaten up by ruling AL activists in Swarupkathi municipality in Pirojpur early today.
