A number of countries across the globe have vowed to take action against illegal trade in wildlife.

Delegates from 46 different countries and 11 UN organisations signed The London Declaration during the conference at Lancaster House in London.

The move outlines the need to be taken to stop animal poaching, which governments agreed needs to be treated as a serious crime, the BBC reports.

The illegal trade in wildlife is worth about 19 billion dollars a year.

The London declaration states that priority will be given to corruption and organised crime with animal trade.

The 46 countries have also committed to improving cross border cooperation - and to strengthening laws and policing, the report added.
