The fifth edition of Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival began on Friday and will continue till September 17.
It is being held at Pragjyoti ITA Centre, Machkhowa, Guwahati. Film personalities such as Vishal Bhardwaj, Gauri Shinde, Abhishek Chaubey, Nagesh Kukunoor, Nagraj Manjule, and Adil Hussain, are a part of the three-day festival.
The schedule includes film screenings, interactive sessions, workshops, panel discussions and more.
A short film contest is also organised every year as part of the festival. It is open to filmmakers from the northeast and for films shot in the northeast or featuring stories from the region.
Over 150 short films were received for the contest and out of all the entries, the top 15 will be screened at the Film Festival. The jury members for the short film contest include experienced filmmakers such as Dr Santwana Bardoloi, Sanjeev Hazorika, Roopa Barua, Reema Kagti, Bobbeeta Sharma and Ronnie Lahiri.
The top three winners will be awarded cash prizes of over Rs 2.5 lakhs in addition to the opportunity to work with a production house of national repute. The year, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be conferred to renowned Assamese director, Munin Barua.
