Six Hezbollah members have been killed in an Israeli air strike in Quneitra province in the Syrian sector of the Golan Heights "during a field reconnaissance mission," the Lebanese militant movement said.
The son of a late military leader, a current commander, and at least one Iranian were among those dead, reported the BBC.
Israel although declined to comment on the incident but unnamed sources confirmed that an Israeli helicopter strike took place and claimed that those who were targeted were conducting reconnaissance for a Hezbollah attack.
The incident comes days after Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, warned Israel that his troops might retaliate against "repeated Israeli strikes inside Syria."
Following the strike, Hezbollah's Al Manar TV said that Israel was "playing with fire that puts the security of the whole Middle East on edge."
Hezbollah militants have backed President Bashar al-Assad in a four-year-long Syrian conflict that has claimed the lives of more than 200,000 people.
Israel has launched several air raids inside Syria since the conflict began and has claimed that the strikes were aimed at preventing the transfer of stockpiles of rockets from the Syrian government or Iran to Hezbollah.
