A new study suggests that a quarter of us have ended a relationship with someone over unpaid debt but the majority of people also feel super awkward asking friends to pay them back, especially when it's a small amount.

Whether it's a split restaurant bill, or cinema and concert tickets, most of us end up in that situation where you feel petty asking for 30 dollars from a mate, but you could really do with it back.

63 percent of people feel awkward broaching the subject with friends, according to a survey from mobile app Quicklypay.it.

The survey also found 73 percent of Australians have outstanding debt owed to them with 14.3 percent being owed more than 5,000 dollars, News.com.au reported.

Quicklypay.it argues it's found the solution to that social conundrum.

The app is designed for 'IOU' situations, enabling easy splitting of bills and debt tracking between friends. It also lets you send reminders to your mates through either the app or SMS.
