Over 74 percent voters exercised their franchise in the second and final phase of the local civic body elections began today across seven districts of Kerala.

A total of 44,388 candidates are in fray for the 12,651 seats in various local bodies of these districts, seeking mandate from over one crore 39 lakhs 98 thousand voters.

Technical snag to voting machines affected polling in some parts in Malappuram and Thrissur. Re-polling has been ordered for tomorrow at four centres in Thrissur.

In Malappuram, re-polling has been recommended in 27 booths.

The first phase of the civic polls was held on Monday in which Kollam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod, Kannur and Thiruvananthapuram districts went to vote. 77.83 percent voter turnout was recorded in the first phase of the polls.

The counting of votes is scheduled for November 7.
