Just 22 per cent of the over-50s are satisfied with their sex lives and a third, a new poll has revealed.
In the survey of 2,000 people, more than a third said that they 'unhappy' with their love lives, the Daily Express reported.
Fewer than 19 per cent said that they had sex more than once a week, while a third said that they no longer had sex or made love less than once a year.
The study - carried out jointly by Relate and the Mature Times newspaper - found that nearly 50 per cent of over-50s do not talk to anyone about their sex lives even though a third believe that sex is still important.
Barbara Bloomfield, a Relate counsellor, said that it's easy to assume that sex decreases as we age as people lose interest, but the survey showed that sex and intimacy do remain really important.
She said that by talking to someone about issues in sex life, be they emotional or physical, most people can still enjoy intimacy well into later life.
